About Anna Sui
Born in 1964 in Detroit USA, Anna Sui was fascinated by fashion even as a young child, dressing her dolls and brother's toy soldiers in evening wear to pretend they were at glamorous events. At high school she made clothes from designs she found in fashion magazines and then moved to New York where she enrolled at Parsons School of Design and worked as a stylist with leading fashion photographer Steven Meisel. After working for several sportswear companies she sought to express her independent spirit and in 1992 opened her first boutique in the Soho district. Even in the competitive world of fashion retailing it soon struck a chord with the public with her unique stylings of bright colours, flea market furniture and eye-catching mannequins. Since then her fashion brands have gone from strength to strength, and she has expanded to international markets with particular success in Japan. |
