Kiehl's started as an apothecary store in New York's East Greenwich Village in 1851 providing a range of pharmaceutical products including homeopathic and herbal remedies, medicines and essential oils. It also began producing its own range of products and has become famous in particular for its hair and skin solutions that have a relatively small but very dedicated following and have an almost cult status among celebrities, super models and beauty professionals. There are now stores throughout the United States but the original New York store is still there and with its elegant old fashioned atmosphere it is something of a local landmark.
